I will always remember this wedding, because the bride and groom had the most beautiful car I have ever seen… an Aston Martin Vanquish. The groom is a big luxury car fan and I was very happy to see this wonderful lane with the gorgeous trees which they had picked as a backdrop for the photo shoot, in the middle of the Dutch countryside. A perfect setting for a perfect car. Bride and groom completed this picture wonderfully and we actually stayed quite a while to make sure we had all possible images with this amazing car that none of us was likely to see up & close very soon again. It instantly made me feel like a Bond girl and Daniel Craig could pop up at any moment. To my great disappointment that didn’t happen, but winning an award definitely makes up for it!

This image was taken at the ‘Markthal’, a new and iconic building which has recently been added to the rich architecture of the city of Rotterdam. Peter and Sarah have a special connection with this place because they live right next door to it and do most of their shopping there, being it a huge indoor market. As such, it also features an underground car park and this is the escalator that leads to it. As I was drawn to the symmetry and shape of it, I asked the bride & groom to position themselves at the bottom and waited for the split second when no one else was on it, to get the shot.

Peter and Sarah live in the city centre of Rotterdam, right next to one of the most iconic buildings that has recently been added to the city’s rich architecture, the so-called ‘Markthal’. It is basically an indoor market with lots of food-stalls and café’s, but what makes it so special is its ceiling - which is a work of art. Fruits, vegetables, flowers and even bugs are painted in gigantic sizes on its hoof-shaped ceiling and form a colourful backdrop for photography. So when we talked about a location for the photoshoot on their wedding day, it didn’t take any of us long to decide that a visit to the ‘Markthal’ was an absolute must.
